Happy New Year Everyone!!!!
It's hard to realize that it's 2020. The date sounds like something out of a Science fiction movie. But, here we are living it.
SAAG has had a fantastic year in 2019 with alot of fantastic changes. Upgrading our gallery from the Casas Adobes location to our beautiful La Encantada location was the best move we could have made for this stage of growth for our guild. Leaving our old location with 30 artists displaying to now over 90 fabulous artist in the new location. Wow!
The Guild's membership has also increased from just over 100 members at the beginning of the year to now over 230 artist members.
Our meeting location at the new gallery has also worked out great. We had a few growing pains along the way but things are adjusting well.
SAAG continues to try and find and offer opportunities for our artist to grow. Most current is the Exhibition opportunity at he Overlook restaurant at the Oro Valley Community Center restaurant. Please look for that information in this newsletter. There are also many other opportunities that you should check out in this newsletter.
It's also that time of year when the SAAG nominating committee is sending a call out for interested members in serving on the SAAG board. Check out the article in this newsletter.
As you can tell the theme of my report this month is to CHECK OUT THIS NEWSLETTER! It's full of important information and opportunities for you, our members.
Together we can make 2020 as great or better than 2019.

Teaching Art at the SAAG Gallery
It is a great opportunity to share your passion with others, by teaching a class in the back room of the SAAG Gallery at La Encantada! Recently the SAAG Board has agreed to some new shelving in the Gallery which will showcase examples of the art that will be taught. This will go up with the November line up of classes. Further we have new signage at the front door of the gallery listing all the classes for the month.
The SAAG website now has a new application for prospective teachers to fill out as well. Teachers no longer have to make their own flyer. This is being done by our PR committee so that we have a consistent and branded look.
Here are the deadline dates for signing up to teach:
• Deadline for February Classes is January 17
Deadline for Delivering Class Sample(s) to Gallery January 27
• Deadline for March Classes is February 14
Deadline for Delivering Class Sample(s) to Gallery February 24
• Deadline for April Classes is March 13
Deadline for Delivering Class Sample(s) to Gallery March 23
Please check out all the guidelines online!

Sculpture on Campus Program
Artists are given the opportunity to exhibit their art to the general public in a partnership that turns the East Campus into an open access gallery and extension of the artist’s studio. This venue for viewing and appreciating public sculpture enriches student, faculty and staff cultural life and is also an established and valuable art resource for Tucson’s East Side residents.

Do you want to show your work to others? Are you looking for non-judgmental feedback on your art? Do you think the experience of other artists could be helpful? Or perhaps you would just like to discuss art in an open unstructured evnironment.
You will also get to know other members of the Guild in this nurturing setting like never before.
You are welcome at the Non-Critique on the third Wednesday of each month beginning at 10:00 a.m. and concluding no later thank 12:00 Noon. We will be gathering at the SAAG Gallery of Gifts in the La Encantada Mall (2905 E. Skyline Drive, Suite 262 - Next to Tommy Bahama). Bring one to three examples of your work or just come to talk about art. New or old, 2D or 3D work is welcome.
Hope to see you at the Non-Critique.

Dear Fellow Artists,
The Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild is planning to have another Share Our Walls Show in September, 2019. We are excited to be offering this very successful exhibit to your members again. Our hope is to connect with artists across southern Arizona and build relationships with the greater Tucson art community. We are attaching the Call to Artists and an Entry Form to this email. Additional materials are available on our website – www.southernazwatercolorguild.com – on the shows page. The show will hang in September with an entry due date of August 14. The show will be juried and judged for cash awards.

Starting this Fall season Jewell's Fine Art Festivals is hoping to increase awareness and participation at their shows and is reaching out to SAAG with the idea of developing an ongoing relationship between the two organizations. Jewell’s has been doing art fairs in Tucson for 22 years and is interested in promoting local and visiting artists, as well as emerging or returning artists.
Jewell’s is offering a large 10x30 space to the guild with no commitment, hoping that SAAG members can come together and fill this space as a group to show and sell their work. The cost for this space would only be $450 and up to 9 (or more?) artists could conceivably share and show in this space, which could bring the cost down to as little as $50 per artist for a weekend show.
Should there not be enough interest to fill the entire space, smaller spaces could still be considered at steep discounts as well – a 10x20 for $300, or a 10x10 for $150. These rates are for the Guild as a group to have multiple artists take advantage of the reserved space. Individual artists who want their own booths will receive a 10% discount on their spaces. If there isn’t a lot of interest around a particular show it wouldn't cost SAAG a thing and the 3 spaces that JFAF reserves for SAAG would be made available to other artists.
I'm hoping to work out a win-win for all - where JFAF draws more artists and vendors to develop larger shows, which will hopefully draw larger crowds, and SAAG members get opportunities to do shows as a group for a small amount of money.
