Artist Statement
As an artist, my work is a vivid exploration of texture and color through the medium of collage, both abstract and representational. While alcohol inks often guide my creative process, I also incorporate acrylics, acrylic inks, and crackle to build diverse textures on paper or yupo.
These textured elements are meticulously cut and arranged onto panels, then finished with varnish and a resin layer, creating works that are both visually dynamic and tactile.
In my abstract pieces, I gravitate toward circles and organic forms, allowing for fluid, unrestricted expression. My representational works, however, are deeply inspired by the vibrant Sonoran desert—a landscape teeming with life and complexity.
This environment comes alive in my art through the depiction of architectural saguaros, cacti, Joshua trees, and native wildlife such as hummingbirds, javelinas, and roadrunners.
A hallmark of my technique is the layering of colors, often over modeling paste or crackle, to create rich gradients that emerge in harmonious blends.
I’m particularly drawn to shades of blue, teal, and the shimmer of gold, which frequently feature in my work. Gold, in particular, serves as a luminous thread that unifies and defines my pieces.
Through these techniques, I strive to create art that transcends traditional boundaries, inviting viewers into a vibrant dialogue of form, color, and texture, all inspired by the natural world.
