Chris’ Craft - Designs in Wood
By Chris Novak
I have been woodcrafting for over 40 years. Initally as a hobby and now as my artistic endeavor in retirement. I became enchanted by the unique natural beauty found in wood varieties. As a retired geologist, I learned to appreciate the resiliency and living beauty of our planet, including different wood species.
As I select each wood piece, I have the opportunity of unleashing its distinctive beauty and finishing it into unique art pieces.
I hope others will treasure, use and pass on to family and friends these unique “treasure boxes”. As I design and fashion each piece, I envision it as a multi-generational keepsake that with each use and touch enriches its keepsake and collectible value.
I carefully search for and use as much reclaimed and recycled wood in my creations as is possible. I mindfully use only food safe mineral oil and beeswax for finishes. If the piece has touches of Turquoise, rest assured the Turquoise is genuine – no fake stones or minerals are ever used.
Each piece is one-of-a-kind and reflects nature’s striking irregularities and charm. It is my desire and joy to unveil this rich hidden beauty for your use and pleasure.

Curley Maple, Padauk & Turquoise treasure box
I use natural finishes on all my "treasure boxes" - mineral oil and bees wax only. Turquoise is real, ground by hand.

Ironwood, Mesquite & Turquoise treasure box
Ironwood is a rare wood in Southern Arizona & I try to utilize it in a conscientious manner.

Roasted Poplar, Curley Maple & Turquoise treasure box
This is one of my favorite boxes. It is simple but a significant piece which I hope will become a generational piece passed down to family members.
