Painting Still Life Subjects in Oils

Artist Statement
Oil paintings have always held a special attraction for me. I was introduced to art museums as a child and always wanted to paint.
However, my career path took a different turn, and I spent many years teaching young children with special needs and eventually preparing teachers in this field.
Although appreciating art has always been a part of who I am, creating art had to wait until my retirement.
Since that time I have been trying to catch up and now have come full circle, from the child with a yearning to an adult who pursues creating art with a lifetime’s worth of passion and dedication.
Although I have experimented with various genres, I have discovered that interpreting still life scenes is the most satisfying pursuit for me.
Give me an apple, a silver bowl, or a clump of grapes and I am in a timeless world. It is both the process and the product that bring great satisfaction.
The process of interpretation is the challenge, while the product often affirms the planning. Each painting session brings new learning and revelation. I hope you enjoy my efforts!
