Artist Statement
I am an amateur naturalist. I collect feathers and bones, shells and stones. Endlessly curious, I love to learn and continue to explore. I bring my wonder and awe of the natural world to my art.
I’ve been taking photos since I was a child; first with my Kodak Instamatic, later with better cameras. I travel as much as I can, and I enjoy exploring new places. I’ve been above the Artic Circle, and below the Equator. I’ve crisscrossed the United States, and visited Central America, Canada, many of the Caribbean Islands, Egypt, and a several European countries.
When my family moved to Down East Maine, I developed a deep appreciation of the wilderness and wildlife there. Once my two sons were grown, my photographic “artist’s eye” really developed, and I began shooting more artistic work. I strive for evocative photos that convey my joie de vivre. I prefer photographing “human scale” things, and savoring my sunsets and vistas with the naked eye.
I’ve consciously chosen to keep my photography process and equipment simple. The subjects of my photography are also simple, but evoke whimsy, joy and appreciation.
I started a new chapter in my life when moved to Tucson in 2019. Tucsonans embrace the Arts with festivals, galleries, and public art like nowhere else I know. Within two years, I had my work in two Galleries and had joined the Southern Arizona Arts Guild. Still new to the business of Art, I’m enjoying this new comradery.

Ghost of Johns Island, "watercolor" filtered photo
The Angel Oak of Johns Island has been standing for century upon centuries. In its presence, I feel its quiet, neutral gaze as it witnesses humanity's comings and goings.
