Sonoran Skies - Oil Painting

Artist Statement

I have always been interested in art. I majored in painting and art education in college and received my Master’s Degree in Human Development at Ohio State.

I’ve used my degrees in art and child development to help hospitalized children through the use of art and play therapy at the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases and at The Cleveland Clinic.

I saw the healing power of art in this role as a Child Life Specialist. I later taught art in Oregon for 23 years, 21 of them at the high school level, which was a wonderful experience.

I work in a wide variety of media in my studio, using paint, glass, photography, astrophotography and clay to express my feelings about the beauty and mystery that exists in our world. I hope that I might inspire others to feel a reverence for nature, too, through my work.

  • Ana Reservoir Acrylic Painting

This large (40" X 60") acrylic painting was inspired by a small Airstream trailer I saw at sunset in a field in Oregon. I submitted the image to Airstream Life Magazine and it appeared on the cover!

  • Desert Tempest

The Sonoran Desert has been an inspiration for my work since moving to Tucson. The iconic Saguaro, the strong sunlight and the dramatic Monsoon rains are unique to our area and make wonderful subjects for me as an artist

  • Golden Hour, Sonoran Desert Oil Painting

This image was inspired by my love for the desert flora and fauna as well as our incredibly colorful sunsets here. I hope my work helps others to appreciate the abundant beauty around us.
