Artist Statement

I began creating my Fabric Wall Sculptures over 40 years ago. Having always been interested in creating layers of texture and colors with fabrics, I developed my own unique techniques for constructing my 3-dimensional fiber works.

Using painted, hardware cloth as my structure I build several layers of woven fabrics then embellished with stitching and beading, I create one layer on top of another.

About 10 years ago I began using Rescued, Repurposed and Recycled materials in my sculptures.

Recently, I have begun utilizing open-weave, cubical mesh as the base for my art. I work layers of translucent fabrics and embellishment on the front and back of the base structure to create my Fabric Collages.

In the past several years I have been moving away from creating purely decorative fiber wall sculptures but also give my work themes with commentary on social issues and current events.

The work I chose to include in this portfolio represents all of my series. For a more in-depth look at a particular series, please visit my website. www.TamaraArtiist.com
