Artist Statement

Tucson based artist Tracy Ann Holmes, is a transplant to the desert yet was immediately drawn to the tenacity of the life that survives the Sonoran climate.

Originally from the beautiful Napa, California, nature has always been an inspiration in Tracy’s work. Other themes of her work are faith, the challenges of raising a family and what it means to be a woman.

Tracy received an Art Education K-12 Certificate and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in Ceramics from Brigham Young University in 1998.

With over 30 years of experience she utilizes ceramic in tile, mural and sculptural art. Tracy’s sculptural work is predominately the female form used in figurative metaphor.

Her favorite mural technique is that of free form mosaics that utilize grout lines as design lines. Recent projects include tile murals at schools and clay carvings for home interiors.

Tracy also excels in watercolor. She is currently working on the series “Sonoran Desert Life” and aims to paint as many of the plants and animals of the Sonora as possible.

There are more than 50 designs available. Her watercolor murals can be seen in many Walmart stores across the nation.

Tracy taught in the public school system for five years and loves teaching art to the young and old.

She continues to teach youth and adult art classes. By sharing her talents with others she is able to help empower others to create art and enjoy the work of their hands.
